Can a small amount of salt consumed every other day increase blood pressure?

January 19th, 2012 | Posted in blood pressure   Comments Off
asked:

A family member of mine compains about high blood pressure but doesn’t seem to understand the correlation between salt intake and an increase in blood pressure. Almost every day she consumes about a teaspoon of salt but doesn’t see this as a problem. Isn’t a teaspoon of salt enough to increase blood pressure? and for someone like her, who likes salty foods, what is the maximum amount of salt, if any, that can be consumed daily without increasing blood pressure?
Also, I’m wondering - does sugar increase blood pressure?

Resolved Question: Do I have hypertension?

I’m overweight sixteen year old female , last night I was sitting just fine and then I started to feel my heart beating and so I checked my blood pressure , it was 142/79 and my pulse was 107!!!!! I wasn’t even doing anything but setting there. I got really anxious before , and so after i checked it it was a few minutes and my heart stopped doing that. About 20 minutes later after I calmed down my blood pressure was 130/80 and my pulse was 85. So everything was back to normal after I calmed down , I check my blood pressure a lot and it’s usually always normal , I just have those days where It spikes up for no reason. I’ve had an EKG done 6 months ago and it was normal , my doctor thinks I’m fine. But I’m terrified I have heart disease.

How do you measure systolic blood pressure?

January 13th, 2012 | Posted in blood pressure   Comments Off
Ducas asked:

I know the procedure of measuring blood pressure. My question is: what counts as the tapping noise that you listen for as you release pressure in the arm cuff? Does it have to be loud and clear? I get some very faint taps around 140. Sometimes I hear four or five taps, then they will go away and a regular, clearly audible tapping begins when I get around 125. So should I consider my systollic blood pressure to be 140, or 125?

How to increase low blood pressure?

January 9th, 2012 | Posted in blood pressure   Comments Off
Tenasha asked:

I have low blood pressure and am getting a blood pressure test in the morning.

I need to fudge the blood-pressure test to make my BP seem higher

I’ve looked online, but can only find tips like ‘drink more water’, ‘wear pressurised stockings’ and ‘eat more salt’, but aside from the water one, these wouldn’t be convenient in the short term.

Would maybe tensening my arm muscles or anything help make my blood pressure SEEM higher? How can I dodge the accuracy of the test?

What is normal for a drop in blood pressure from lying down to standing?

January 5th, 2012 | Posted in blood pressure   Comments Off
kcat asked:

So my doctor said that after I stood up, my blood pressure dropped 28 points. How much does most people’s blood pressure drop after they stand up?
The doctor seemed to think it was abnormal, but he was a neurologist not a cardiologist. I am going to see a cardiologist next. I just wonder what is the normal range for a blood pressure drop. Does anyone know?
